Polar Vortex Projects

Mona Lisa gets cold!  Her scarf fell off, but you get the picture.  :)

The kinders are learning about Pointillism by stamping with tempera paints and pencil erasers.  An excellent project for upcoming Valentine's Day!

(Working at a Catholic school = Jesus love infused into the holiday!)

First graders made the birch trees and cardinals (white oil pastel birch trees on light blue paper with cut and glue cardinal collage,) and 3rd grade used pastel on dark blue paper to illustrate the the story "What Snowmen Do at Night" after learning about light and shadow.  Look the book up on YouTube if you don't have a copy... it's great!  We watched a short clip of the story first and paused to talk about lighting.

Thanks to Pinterest for the idea of 3D giant snowflakes, assembled by 2nd graders!  (Each student makes one spire and in groups of 3 assembles half a snowflake which I staple together when done.)  Surprisingly simple!
