I'm a firm believer that all students should practice drawing their shoes. It's like a still life that they got to pick out at the store themselves, (unless their parents strong armed them into some "function over fashion" footwear... *ahem, mom). But really, it makes for some great practice with line, composition, shading, and still life drawing. I always tell them to draw what they SEE, and not what they THINK something looks like. (This year I plan on having them draw a shoe without looking, then create their still life shoe, and compare at the end.)
Here are some of my 7th graders' shoes... I wish I'd taken pictures of my 8th graders' shoe drawings too because they colored theirs in, added a background or setting and turned out MARVELOUSLY.
This kiddo made me so proud... MEASURING USING HER PENCIL!!! Her shoe could use a little help but I appreciated seeing her try :)
NOTE: I learned the hard way... REMIND THEM TO WEAR OR BRING THE SAME SHOES TO THE NEXT CLASS! Otherwise... ugh.
