With the winter's harsh "Polar Vortex" spinning through, I've been in the mood to do some colorful and lively projects lately. With the Kinders this week we used some black oil pastel to outline our "Wonky Birds", thanks to DeepSpaceSparkle for the inspiration! I walked them step-by-step of adding body parts but students chose their own style. From beak to "hair" and pattern to head and body size, they rendered some interesting results! We practiced painting in the lines and talked about how the waxy pastels work like "paint walls" if treated carefully. Students carefully cut out their wonky birds when dry and glued them to a paper that would make them "pop". A bright addition to our gloomy winter days!
